Sleeping Positions – The Best Sleeping Positions

Sleeping Positions

There are a number of different sleeping positions and it is hard to know which is the best sleeping position for each us. Some people prefer to sleep on their back, others on their side, and some prefer the foetal position. Is there a best sleeping position to give us a good night’s sleep? It makes sense to sleep in a comfortable position, and it might help you to decide if you know what the different sleeping positions are.

Sleeping on your side is the most usual position to sleep in. Personally I find it more comfortable to sleep with the one pillow under my head, as two gives my head too much elevation and causes discomfort.

Sleeping on the back. This is a sleeping position which just does not work for me. It is unnatural and it is hard to get comfortable in this position. If you snore, this sleeping position is not for you, as it can make snoring worse.

Sleeping face down. Again, it might suit some people but not me. I would have problems taking in sufficient air sleeping in this position, and for me it is uncomfortable to sleep this way.

If you toss and turn in bed because you cannot sleep you find you change sleeping positions anyway, just to try and get comfortable so you can get to sleep. That said, we normally start the night in our preferred position for sleeping. You can always move pillows around to support the legs and upper body if need be. Pillows don’t have to stay under your head all night.

Given the different sleeping positions, if you aren’t getting a good nights sleep it might be worth experimenting with a change of sleeping position. The best sleeping position for one person might not be so for someone else, and changing the position you sleep in could just mean a better nights sleep.
