My Best Ways To Fall Asleep
Of the many natural ways to fall asleep, I have my favourites.
I have sleep strategies I can call on, should the need arise when I cannot fall asleep as quickly as I want to on any given night. None of us knows before we go to bed how we are going to sleep the following night. There are so many variables to consider that’s why I like to be prepared just in case I can’t drop to sleep. I have a few sleep remedies to fall back on when this happens. I try one strategy at a time, giving it a certain amount of time to work for me. If it is not effective quickly enough, I move on to try something else. Hopefully though, I won’t need to work through many before I am sound asleep.
It works for me eventually. Sometimes I drop off quickly other times I am not so lucky. I know we are all different when it comes to how quickly we get to fall sleep. Isn’t it wonderful when you can just switch out the bedside light, and before you know it, you are asleep? I value those nights. Sometimes it just is not like that, and I am left wondering why. Once your concious mind wakes up you know its going to take time quieting it down again.
Counting Sheep
For me, it is the intrusive thoughts which keep me awake. So, knowing the problem, it is up to me to find ways of falling sleep. The good old fashioned “counting sheep” strategy has its place among the ploys that I sometimes use. And yes, it does still work.
If you are into any kind of meditation you are welcome to try my method. I find it helpful to focus on my breathing as I lie awake in bed. It diverts my mind from going in all directions when I want it to calm down. It takes practice, but it does work for me. Calming the mind by focusing on the breathing is also an excellent way to clear the clutter from the mind during the waking hours as well. It is mentally refreshing. If this technique doesn’t suit you try focusing on on something else, such as relaxing on a warm beach.
I know there are many more natural ways to fall asleep, but this method is currently my favourite. I believe that meditation is a must in helping to overcome some sleep problems. If you try it, don’t expect a quick fix, but over time you could well discover the additional benefits of a calmer demeanour and, dare I say it, a happier life. It takes time to train the mind into new habits.
From my own experience I have discovered it is best not to fight those intrusive thoughts which can stop me going to sleep, I would rather let them go. This is easily done by using the imagination to visually let them go. And these are my natural ways to fall asleep.
